BENTO – Design for Eating, Gathering and Communicating

A bento is more than just a meal.
It is a form of communication.
This was the central theme for a new exhibition at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum. Through installations and participatory works by contemporary artists, the event explored the design of human connection revealed through the simple Japanese lunchbox.
The combination was highly unusual: an everyday bento and contemporary art.
The branding and visual identity embraced this exact novelty. Rather than simply explaining the event, the design was crafted to spark curiosity and capture the imagination of the visitors before they even stepped inside the gallery.
